Attended a Songwriter's Workshop

Saturday I went to the Backroom Gallery in Englewood. Dana Cooper was putting on a songwriters workshop. It cost me $40, but it was worth it. It's great to grab bits and pieces from someone who has been writing for years.

Peter, Paul and Mary

I recently bought the CD called "Inside Llewyn Davis". I heard a song from it and immediately fell in love with the CD. I think the song was "500 Miles". This is the soundtrack from the movie. I watched the movie the other night and wasn't as crazy about it. It was interesting though. If you haven't bought this soundtrack yet, I recommend it. This morning on the way to church I listened to a CD of Peter, Paul and Mary. There was that song again. I used to listen to Peter, Paul and Mary in the 60's. I was in love with folk music. It was great to listen to this CD. I need to learn to play some of these songs.

Jackie Greene

I just discovered Jackie Greene. Don't know how long he's been around. I was listening to my favorite radio station, 90.9 The Bridge, here in Kansas City. It's public radio. I heard Jackie's song, "Honey I Been Thinking About You" and liked the sound of it. I looked for him on YouTube, then purchased the song on iTunes. Boy isn't iTunes great. Immediate gratification. Anyway, give it a listen when you get a chance. I think you'll enjoy it.

Madisen Ward and Mama Bear on Letterman

So, were you lucky enough to see these local artists on Letterman the other night?  If not, you really missed it. Their new single, "Silent Movie", is great!  Download a copy from iTunes today. Help support local artists.

The Vogts Sisters at The Backroom Gallery and Cotie's Cafe

I had the pleasure of listening to the Vogts Sisters, Maggie and Abigail, last Saturday night. They were great. Before the concert, some of my Winfield friends were talking about them online.
They made an appearance on Stage 5 at Winfield last year and were an instant success. They definitely didn't disappoint Saturday night. They performed songs for close to 2 hours. I was able to pick up a copy of their first CD at the end of their show.  Their website is www.vogtssisters.com.

Back at it again....

Okay... need to start this up again. I wanted this to be a discussion about acoustic instrument jams and such. I live in Lee's Summit but used to run an acoustic jam called Heartland Unplugged at a church in South Kansas City. That is where I first came up with the name for this blogsite, Now that I no longer have that jam, I try to make it to the plethora of acoustic jams around the area. I just missed a terrific one last night. HABOT is one of the largest acoustic monthly jams held in our area. It is usually held on the third Friday of the month, but they made an exception this month and held it on the fourth Friday. I've already seen a photo from last night on Facebook. They were showing a shot of the band that performed. I forgot to mention that, besides the 11 or 12 jamming rooms, they also have a show at this jam.  Those who just want to listen to bluegrass and old time music can come sit and listen.

The Backroom Gallery& Codie's Cafe on Winner Rd. in Englewood hosted The Accidental Project last night. The Backroom Gallery is a great supporter of local musicians. You should check them out.

I play guitar and recently I've become interested in Collings guitars.  I've been seeing ads for a new line of guitars they are making, called Waterloo. I'm wondering if anyone has purchased one or knows any more about them. The last ad I saw showed a jumbo model.
